PROJECT OVERVIEW

LA County’s Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) supports child safety and well-being of over 2 million children through-out the county. DCFS was going through turbulent times in the public eye and required a website redesign and development that showcased happy success stories of their programs and a rewriting of content that was more supportive and optimistic. Their site was refaced from the old governmental adornment to a more colorful and cheerful imagery filled website that gave a softer approach to family interventions.

TIMELINE

2018 – 2019

PLATFORM

Built using WordPress and included an content approval workflow

The website content was restructured into 3 main buckets based on the three groups DCFS provides services for, parents, children, and caregivers, each with a symbolic color which helped users know exactly where they were within the website at all times

Due to the extensive collection of information, our team built a custom “How can we help?” tool, that features a selection of FAQs specific for each group and included on every page. When the user selects an option, they are taken to a page of the website that contains the answer.

Site admins were also given the ability to choose a success story(s) that were relevant to the page’s topic and these success stories were showcased in each of the page’s headers. On the about pages, the sidebars were also populated with a “Meet a Social Worker” component. These story outlets helped put a positive face on DCFS and their path to healthy families, children, and community.
